On a Saturday afternoon, under radiant sunshine, Garberville Rotary proudly unveiled a new scoreboard at the South Fork High School Cubs Baseball field, marking a momentous occasion for the community. The dedication ceremony, held in conjunction with the first home game of the season, celebrated Garberville Rotary’s enduring commitment to supporting local schools and youth.

“Garberville Rotary has a rich history of championing our local schools and youth, and it brings me great joy to continue that tradition today,” remarked Garth Epling, President of Garberville Rotary.

The new scoreboard is a tribute to two exceptional individuals whose selfless dedication has significantly enriched the fabric of the community. Clif Anderson, who served as the superintendent of the SoHum school district for 17 years and contributed over three decades of unwavering service, alongside Jim Quast, beloved principal from 1989 to 1998, were honored for their profound impact on the school and the community.

Acknowledging the indispensable role of community collaboration, Mr. Epling expressed gratitude for Shawn Masterson’s tireless efforts: “This project would not have happened without Shawn Masterson’s dedication. From identifying the need to the meticulous installation, Shawn’s commitment was instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”

Mr. Epling went on to express his appreciation to community partners Vocality Community Credit Union, SoHum Health, and Redwoods Rural Health Center for their generous contributions to making the scoreboard installation a reality.

Chris Contreras, baseball coach, expressed gratitude on behalf of South Fork High School, remarking, “I am so thankful for our Southern Humboldt community! Thanks to Shawn Masterson of Nor Cal Mechanical for spearheading this project.”

The collaborative efforts of the Garberville Rotary, alongside community partners and dedicated individuals like Shawn Masterson and Chris Contreras, exemplify the spirit of service and solidarity that defines Southern Humboldt.
